Belle Burden

Belle Burden is an author, attorney, and New York City native. Her debut memoir, Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage, published by The Dial Press in January 2026, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. The book received a New York Times Editors’ Choice designation and was ranked #4 on Amazon’s Best Books of 2026 So Far. Strangers recounts the collapse of Burden’s 20-year marriage and its aftermath in five acts.

Burden is also the author of the Modern Love essay “Was I Married to a Stranger?” and the 2024 New York Times opinion essay “The Babe Paley in ‘Feud’ Is Not the Woman I Knew.”

Burden has discussed her memoir on The Oprah Podcast, Good Morning America, The Drew Barrymore Show, NPR’s All Things Considered, and has been featured in Vanity Fair, Town & Country, Vogue, W, The Washington Post, People, and Katie Couric Media, among others. The Strangers audiobook, read by Burden, was ranked #1 by NYT and Audible.

A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Harvard College (BA), and New York University School of Law (JD), Burden practices pro bono immigration law, specializing in juvenile cases. She lives in New York City with her three children.
